​​At OH Medical, we’re recruiting on behalf of a leading client to find an experienced Lead Highway Engineer to drive forward a critical passenger infrastructure programme in North Somerset.

You’ll be leading the delivery of bus stop improvements, 12 mobility hubs, and several First and Last Mile interventions under the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP). These projects are at various stages of design and delivery, and your expertise will be key in ensuring everything is completed on time — by March 2026.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Taking ownership of multiple highway infrastructure projects, managing all aspects from design to delivery.

  • Leading and supervising a small team of engineers to keep projects on track.

  • Liaising with stakeholders and ensuring compliance with UK highway engineering standards.

  • Managing tight schedules and budgets to deliver high-quality passenger transport improvements.

What We’re Looking For

To be the successful Lead Highway Engineer candidate for this role, you'll have:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or actively working towards it.

  • At least 5 years’ relevant experience in highway or transport infrastructure engineering.

  • Proven success delivering multi-project programmes, ideally in passenger transport.

  • Strong knowledge of UK standards such as the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).

  • Experience managing and supporting engineering teams.

  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
