​OH Medical is currently seeking an Occupational Health Nurse who is qualified in Mental Health to join our client in Plymouth. This is a full-time, permanent vacancy with the working hours of Monday-Friday between 7.45am - 4.00pm.

You will be required to deliver specific project activities and objectives to include:

  • Defining, developing and influencing Client policy and strategy for managing mental health in the context of the Client’s business

  • Defining and implementing a model for professional support of Mental Health First Aiders Community across the client’s business

  • Attending and supporting the Client’s Mental Health and Well-being Working groups.

  • Informal coaching and support of DHC Clinical staff with regard to mental health cases when required.

  • Using professional and local knowledge, assess, refer and signpost employees to appropriate support outside Occupational Health including:

    • the client’s existing 3rd party support service,

    • Human Resources & Trade Unions

    • Charitable and NFP Organisations

    • Local Mental Health Services

    • Other Primary, Secondary & Tertiary Health and Care Services

  • Assisting the client in obtaining appropriate and competent support for employees from their 3rd party support services in the mental health arena (e.g. Employee Assistance programme, Local Counselling provider)

  • Design and deliver training and awareness sessions to Mental Health First Aiders and Managers (in conjunction with OH) around mental health and the workplace as part of the Client’s ongoing commitment to improving workplace health and wellbeing.

  • Provide 1-1 problem-solving sessions using CBT or Counselling or Coaching techniques in cases where evidenced-based practice would apply and/or in the absence of the Client’s 3rd party support.

  • Provide expert, evidence-based case management services for referrals relating to attendance, fitness for work and other requests for OH advice when mental health is a factor.

  • Provide professional, comprehensive and evidence-based written reports

  • Provide expert advice in respect of legislative requirements and best practice relating to OH and mental health

Essential Skills

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse, Ideally -SPMH: Specialist practitioner Mental health

  • Experience in working in Occupational Health 

  • Mental health qualification and / or extensive experience of working with individuals with a mental health condition and supporting through illness, working with vulnerable adults, raising any safeguarding concerns or working in a mental health community environment.

  • Experience in work related issues, stress, bullying, mental health awareness and mental health first aid.

  • Experience delivering stress resilience training;

  • CBT trained, experience in several ways of counselling humanistic, person-centred etc.

  • Ability to contribute to workplace health and wellbeing strategy using evidence-based research.

  • Ability to work with a diverse range of individuals and groups.

  • Familiar with Mental Health First Aid training and implementation.

  • Strong verbal & written communication skills  

  • Team worker and confident to work within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Ability to work to deadlines


Desired Skills

  • Occupational Health Qualification

  • Registered with BABCP with accredited certificates in counselling

  • Registered with the BABCP with full accreditation in CBT.

  • Understanding/knowledge/experience of how health conditions and fitness may impact on ability to carry out safety critical roles in heavy industry/Engineering/construction/Marine.
