Job Title: Occupational Health Clinical Manager
Reports To: Head of Wellbeing
Department: Human Resources
Safety Critical Role: No

Role Overview:

As the Occupational Health Clinical Manager, you’ll lead the clinical function of our Occupational Health (OH) team. Your primary focus will be to ensure high standards in the delivery of care that supports employee health, prevents illness related to work, and fosters wellbeing in the workplace. Reporting to the Head of Wellbeing, you’ll play a vital role in helping us achieve our overall mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership

  • Provide expert guidance and leadership to the occupational health team.

  • Manage and mentor Occupational Health Nurse Advisers, technicians, and other clinical staff.

  • Support the Head of Wellbeing in promoting best practices and staying aligned with relevant legislation and guidelines.

  • Lead specific projects to improve clinical service quality.

  • Oversee daily and long-term planning for staffing and clinic activities.

  • Conduct performance reviews, manage absence and development plans, and ensure clinical competency across the team.

  • Act as deputy for the Head of Wellbeing when needed.

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure all occupational health services comply with safety regulations and standards.

  • Promote and uphold professional practice according to the NMC Code of Conduct.

Employee Health Services

  • Deliver a full range of occupational health care, including consultations, assessments, education, testing, and immunisations in line with protocols.

Strategic Planning

  • Contribute to the development of department strategy and business plans.

  • Work with managers across the business to meet targets related to reducing sickness absence and improving employee attendance.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Partner with HR, business leaders, and external organisations to promote health and wellbeing across SWR.

  • Provide clear, professional advice to stakeholders.

Safety-Related Duties

  • Ensure occupational health surveillance programmes meet company needs.

  • Understand potential health risks related to various roles within SWR.

What We’re Looking For:

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse or qualified Occupational Health Practitioner.

  • Active NMC registration and RCN membership (or equivalent professional liability cover).

  • Minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience in occupational health and clinical leadership.

  • Strong understanding of health surveillance, risk assessments, and health promotion in the workplace.

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Qualification and registration to carry out HAVS (Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome) assessments preferred but not essential.
